SA Rural Women's Gathering

The 16th SA Rural Women's Gathering

Penola
2012

I have just been to my 4th Rural Women's Gathering,
They are such fun!

It was great to see other's from around the state that I have met at previous gatherings -  there is so much packed into the weekend you really can't slow down too long to have big catch ups!

Lot's of yummy food, excellent workshops and fabulous guest speakers.

Fantastic delegates bags full of goodies.
and I was rather impressed with the merino wool t-shirt we were all given by Visione - an extremely generous gift.

Prizes & Give-aways.

The 3 workshops I took part in were:

Funky Fabric Flowers, here is my creation...

Weld Your Own Rake

I was so excited about this workshop.

Turns out I am not the best at welding...

I might try soldering instead seeing as I am quite good with a hot glue gun I feel I may be a better solderer than welder - welding is hard!
You have to virtually weld in the dark
covered by a claustrophobic face mask...
Not good.

Still, I am reasonably happy with my Rake...

Which I never intended to use as a rake but...

A jewellery Hanger!

Limestone Sculpture

I have done a little bit of Limestone Sculpting before, but it is fun, so I thought I would have another go.

It is a pear.

I plan to put a metal stem in it
so it will look something like this when it is finished.

The Keynote Speaker Saturday Evening was Ita Buttrose

She is taller than I imagined her to be.

I've had a lovely weekend.

Urban Stitches

In July I went to Urban Stitches in Melbourne
with
Tiff, Lisa and Wendy

We had a great time.

Scissor Keep

Sewing Bag

Pretty Stitches Doily Collection by Leanne Beasley

I started making the little Scissor Keep on the day
and finished it of when I got home.

We were gifted a pair of scissors in our delegates bag, I chose to use a different colour way to better match my scissors...

I think now that I like the more colourful version.

Each Pattern was fully kitted and I think possibly the best thing was that the stitchery designs were all screen printed onto the linen fabric.
I really love this idea!

Here are some other photo's I took at the event...

Looking forward to next years event!

Special Request

A while back I got a special request to make three little squeeze clasp purses for a lady who had purchased one from the Art Gallery shop - she asked if I would make them using her own choice of fabrics.

This is them...

And recently one of the oldies that lives at the same facility as my Nana asked if I would make some brooches for her - she is always admiring the ones I have made for Nana.

This is what I did...

Birthdays...

I am going to have to back track a little,

First to Lisa's Birthday ( which was in June )

This is the gift I made...

It is a paper craft,

Papier Mache letters covered in book pages and paper flowers for embellishment.

and

this is the card I made...

I have actually made a heap of these ready for upcoming birthdays.

July is my birthday...

This is the gift display I woke up to

Very gorgeous.

And a yummy cake.

This sweet little stitchery / applique was a gift from Kate

I suggested that I would be happy with just the stitchery and then I could make it up into something - I like the making more than the stitching mostly.

So Kate went with that and so did Lisa...

I have often admired the stitchery in this book, but knew I would never do it so I dropped a big hint and Lisa took it up.
Lisa completed the stitchery and I have made it into the cushion.

Looks Fab.

I am very pleased with this.

I decided since it turned out so well,
I will do a cushion with the one Kate did too.

This was a gift from Sharon, a beautiful bag that I think was a project from Inspired Stitches 2011 in Adelaide.

I do love the colours.

Tiff has made me some doilies...

And Wendy made me a Tissue Box cover...

I have told the girls that I intend to change the colour scheme in the bedroom to yellow, grey, black and white so now I have some lovely things for the 'new room' - I just have to do the hard stuff, paint the walls and things.
